The abject is disturbing and gross, yet oddly familiar and a reminder that death is inevitable.
My practice aims to explore the theme of abjection of the body. I
am particularly interested in the grotesque body and the corpse as
a form of self-expression in relation to my mental illnesses. The use of disturbing imagery of the body, such as bodily fluids and wounds, expresses my emotional trauma as a way to move past it. It also recreates my inner anxieties/mimics the symptoms of my illnesses for the viewer to experience and attempt to understand me.
