Izzy This series investigates and critiques the enforcement of restrictive Mack feminine identities through satirising our collective fear of abjection
and the grotesque. My work seeks to generate discourse around class-based disciplinary representations of femininity and render
them absurd. It emphasizes the effect that pre-determined ideals have on identities through exaggeration and the exploration of
the uncanny. My work portrays a questionable social practice of femininity - the Australian Debutante Ball - from an alternate perspective to reveal our compulsive tendency to categorize
identity within harmful binaries. Through character performance I parody these binaries in an attempt to alter the viewer’s perception of traditional femininity.
