Under my veil, explores and questions the notion of gender equality, the Western gaze focusing predominantly on the identity of veiled Muslim women through video, photography and installation. I utilise my artwork to explore my Muslim identity through faith and personal background, and as a platform for Muslim women to express themselves in Australian society. Through this theme, my practice endeavors to both disseminate and analyse dominant perceptions of gender and the identity of a Muslim woman. I strive to confront and break down stereotypes while presenting people with new perspectives, through the use of contemporary art.
