This project is based on the concept that women sharing personal stories allows multiple de nitions of ‘woman’ to coexist. The title ...and she always knows her place is a line from the song She’s a Lady by Tom Jones. Re ecting the current cultural zeitgeist which is dominated by narratives created for and from a patriarchal system of values. The intention is to satirise the power of the statement. Using a documentary approach to photography, this practice attempts to create an alternate feminist dialogue, featuring woman protagonists. By denying archetypes and allowing more diverse representations of ‘woman’ to exist, we move toward a more inclusive society.
